Dimensions and pixel density

Work out image dimensions from display width.

An image that is 4,000 pixels wide is often unnecessarily large for a small product card. Choose your file and calculate dimensions for the area where you want to display it.

Darstellungsbreite ist nicht gleich Dateibreite.

An area 800 CSS pixels wide can use more image pixels on a display with double pixel density. At 2x, this gives a file width of 1,600 pixels. The corresponding height is calculated from your source aspect ratio.

More pixels do not automatically produce a visibly better result. A product card may need a different image version from a large detail view. Responsive images let the browser choose a suitable version.

File size in kilobytes also depends on the subject, file format and compression. Pixel dimensions alone cannot reliably predict file-size savings. The tool does not change your file; use the calculated dimensions when exporting it.
